The Power of Hardware

The Small Detail That Changes Everything

When it comes to hardware selection, MSH does not discriminate.

In fact, we take this task very seriously and what many assume will take five minutes can easily take hours. Hardware may seem like a small detail, but in reality, it’s one of the most powerful finishing elements in a space. It’s the jewelry of the room. And just like jewelry, it can completely transform the look and feel.

Knob or Pull?

Modern or Traditional?

Matte black, aged brass, polished nickel… or something unexpected?

What size? What scale? What proportion?

These decisions are never random. Every project we design is unique, just like our clients. A historic home with traditional millwork calls for something very different than a clean-lined kitchen with contemporary cabinetry. The hardware must complement the architecture, enhance the cabinetry, and support the overall design direction. It has to feel intentional.

We consider:

   •   The scale of the doors and drawers

   •   The finish of the plumbing and lighting

   •   The tone of the cabinetry

   •   The overall mood of the space

   •   And most importantly — how it will feel to use every day

Hardware is one of the last things installed in a project, but it’s often what makes the space feel complete. It adds character. It elevates cabinetry. It enhances furniture-style built-ins. It subtly reinforces the story of the room.

For The Carriage House project carefully evaluate scale, finish, functionality, and feel. We selected these Wave Recess Pulls in aged-brass and Arch Backplates in brass. It must not only look beautiful, it must feel beautiful to use.

And when it comes to sourcing, we search everywhere. Boutique hardware studios, artisan makers on Etsy, high-end showrooms, local suppliers and yes, even big box stores like these beautiful Classic Cabinet Knobs in Antique-Brass. We’ve found exceptional pieces in the most unexpected places.

It’s not just a knob. It’s not just a pull. It’s the finishing touch that quietly says:

“This space was designed with intention.”
