Designing Coastal-ish
Laura’s Primary Bedroom Design: Part 1
I’m starting a new project that’s a little different from our usual client work, my own primary bedroom. After four years in our home, I’m finally getting around to designing the space.
Growing up spending summers on the Cape, I’ll always gravitate toward coastal influences. But living “over the bridge” now, I’m mindful of how coastal design translates on the mainland. For me, it’s about balance. While the palette will lean coastal, I’ll be layering in more traditional New England pieces to ground the space in its setting, creating a look that feels like the best of both worlds.
In its current state, the room is very much a blank slate. I’ll be keeping the white bed frame, the light fixtures, and the long wood dresser, but everything else will be refreshed. The main inspiration behind the design is the Kenilworth Chintz Dawn wallpaper from Cailíní Coastal. It captures exactly what I’m hoping to achieve, traditional movement paired with soft coastal colors. I first discovered Cailíní Coastal while working on a powder room project that featured their Endless Summer Hydrangea Paperweave wallcovering. Using their wallpaper again, this time in my own home, felt like the perfect opportunity to collaborate, with the wallpaper serving as the foundation for the entire room.
As the design comes together, I’ll be sharing the pieces I’m sourcing and linking everything on our ShopMy page so you can follow along. And of course, I’ll be pulling Emily and Nancy in for their thoughts along the way. Emily dresses a killer bed, and Nancy’s eye for the perfect hardware will absolutely be a must.
I’m excited to finally give this space the attention it deserves.
Let’s call it coastal-ish.
